HomeGround, the newly constructed facility for Auckland City Mission – Te Tāpui Atawhai, is a transformative, purpose-built community hub in the heart of Auckland. The building includes 80 permanent apartment homes for people experiencing homelessness, a shared rooftop garden, community spaces, a multi-disciplinary health centre, and state-of-the-art addiction withdrawal services. Designed to offer a sense of calm, safety, and dignity, the space reflects a trauma-informed approach to healthcare and housing. As Jacqui Dillon, GM – Health and Social Services, notes:

MacDonald Industries' Involvement
MacDonald Industries were proud to support this important project by supplying high-security sanitaryware for the 30 patient rooms in the medical detox unit.
The products selected included KWC DVS high-security basins and toilets and Delabie water controls, which were specifically chosen for their robust yet domestic appearance—ideal for mental health and high-risk environments.
Specialist Solutions for Mental Health Environments
Sanitaryware in mental health settings presents unique challenges. Products must balance durability and safety with a homelike, non-institutional feel. MacDonald Industries’ Technical Consultants worked in close collaboration with the architects and main contractors to ensure that the solutions delivered met both the practical and therapeutic needs of the facility. Ongoing technical support was provided throughout the project.

Manufactured from GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester), these basins and toilets offer a robust yet familiar look that supports a more therapeutic environment. The GRP is finished with a high-grade sanitary gel coat for improved hygiene and durability.
